Team selection is mainly based on personal best times or, where swimmers have not recorded a competitive time, on coaches’ recommendation. This doesn’t always mean that the fastest swimmer will be selected for every race in their age group as most galas have restrictions on the number of swims allowed. Also friendly galas will be used to give inexperienced swimmers the chance to compete. Whatever race you are selected for the club expects you to swim to the best of your ability.
Swimmers times are collated after each gala and they form the basis of future selection so it is important that if you achieve faster times at other events such as Open meets they are passed to the Club Secretary.
